Success

Hello everyone, I hope you're well.

Its been a while since I've actually sat down to write a blogpost. It would be easy for me to just say I was busy but the truth is, I haven't been inspired at all to write, and its something I began to fall out of love with.  Doing my makeup was becoming a chore. I would wear the same makeup everyday and never had a beauty post to write. My life has been kind of crazy lately and I've been more focused on my career, so lifestyle blogs would have been extremely forced and boring. Today's post however is somewhat linked to everything I have just mentioned, and the idea come to me whilst I'm laid in bed recovering from a migraine - which seems weird because I never would have expected to feel inspired whilst dealing with the aftermath of one of my worst enemies!

Success is a word that I both love and hate. It has made me the happiest person and at times the most miserable. Now this is definitely not a blogpost of me sharing my success or saying that I'm this extremely successful person, but it is about my thoughts on success and what I think is important when becoming a 'success'.

An issue that I have always had to deal with is this idea of making everyone proud, and pushing myself to make decisions based on this. Its so normal to want to make family members and friends proud because hearing those words "I'm so proud of you" makes you feel good right? But if it means you have to make yourself unhappy, then is it really worth it? I finally started to understand this, and thats when I started to think about what it actually means to be successful and how we define that success.

Success is measured in a number of different ways and means something very different to each and every person. For some this could be having the biggest and happiest family and for others it could be getting a certain job you've been wanting years, or passing that exam you've been stressed about. Everyone is successful in one way or another and I was thinking long and hard on a number of aspects I believe help to achieve your own idea of success, without being compared to everyone else.

1. Do things for yourself
I recently touched on this above but I feel like this needs a bit more attention. This doesn't mean being selfish and not caring about others, but it does mean not letting others put you down and question the decisions you are making. Surround yourself with positive people who push you towards where you want to be. Family and friends are there to give advice not to criticise, and its important to know the difference between the two because I often see people make decisions based on the people surrounding them, and then being unhappy that they aren't where they wanted to be.

2. Set goals and aim high
There is some kind of stigma around having big ambitions and people are often criticised for this, but I believe there is a difference between aiming high and having unrealistic expectations. Why is it a bad thing to be aiming for the best? Whether you get there or not you know you have tried your hardest and haven't given up at every obstacle, and have learnt a lesson along the way. I always found it so easy doing something I didn't like if I knew there was a big reward at the end. You don't go to uni and set the goal of just getting to the end, you set the goal of getting a second or first in your degree. For some people a big goal could be getting a promotion and for others it could be moving your whole family abroad, so whilst both may require different time frames or input from others, they can both be considered big goals. We need to not criticise those with big ambitions but also be aware that everyones idea of a big aim is different.

3. Work hard
I feel like this is the most obvious step but perhaps the most overlooked at too. Its obvious that the idea of a successful person is someone who has worked extremely hard their whole life and has been able to achieve a lot, but some people seem to expect everything to just fall into place. Im a big believer in 'you get out what you put in. If you do the bare minimum your likely to get the bare minimum in return, but if you really focus on what you want then you're likely to make it happen and receive the benefits.

4. The present is just as important as the future-
Often when we are thinking about success we think about what is going to happen in the future and what you want to achieve but it is just as important to take a minute, sit back, and think about what is being done or what should be done to ensure that you get to that place later on. Often you can get so caught up in your goals that you forget that something needs to be done today, rather then just planning what the next step is going to be. Planning in advance is important, but not if you don't allow yourself to live in the moment.

5. Take risks
This is my last step but I could honestly go on and on about this topic because this is something I feel so passionate about, but the blogpost would become too long haha. I saved this for last because I feel like it is one of the most important points, because I believe its a learning experience no matter what the outcome is. How can you know you don't like something unless you try it? This was drilled into me at a young age when my parents were trying to force a carrot down me, but its something that Is still relevant to me to this day. I believe in saying yes to most opportunities because how would you know that it may not be the best decision you have ever made until you just go for it.

I never expected to write a blogpost like this but it is something I feel very passionate about. If reading this was to help even just 1 person I would be very happy. I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic but please remember these are just my thoughts and feelings and are not necessarily the right ones.

Thank you so much for reading and sorry again for leaving it so long!
Lots of Love

Lyd&Liv: Wedding Makeup Look- Bridesmaid

Hello everyone, I hope you're well.
Today's post is another collaboration with the beautiful Olivia from Livvyandallthingsbeauty. At the end of August my mum got married and I got the chance to be a bridesmaid again which was amazing- There will be a blogpost on the wedding coming soon. We decided not to get a makeup artist or hair stylist as we knew we could do a fairly good job ourselves so I did the makeup for my mum, myself and my auntie who was also a bridesmaid and then my mum tackled the hair. I was so happy with how the makeup turned out so i've decided to write a post on how I did this look and Olivia has created a stunning look that would be perfect for a wedding guest.

Now for the wedding I knew I wanted the look to be full coverage and a bit more than an everyday look but I also wanted to keep it natural and bright to really enhance my features. I decided on a subtle brown smokey eye with a pop of glitter and glowy skin which was perfect for a summery wedding. I paired the eyes with a nude lip and a slight pop of colour on the cheeks to again give the look a summery vibe.

Eyes:
As I said before I wanted to keep the eyes fairly neutral and fresh but I also wanted the eyes to be the focus of the look so the colours I used and the pop of glitter really helped me achieve this and created a well put together look. I decided to wear lashes on the day simply because I knew it would help enhance my eyes in photos but this look would still look stunning with just a few layers of mascara.

1.Base: I always try to use a base with eyeshadow just to make sure that the colours in the pan are true on my eyelids so for this look I used my trusty MAC paint pot in painterly. I applied this all over my eyelid and up to my brow bone then blended it in. Equally concealer would be just as good if you  don't have a base.
2. Eyeshadow Base: I then set the base using 'Thanks a latte' from the Holy grail Violet voss palette.
3. Crease: Using the HG pallete for this look I took 'Bestie and blended that into my crease focusing on the outer corner and deep in the crease. As I wanted to keep the natural I applied small amounts of eyeshadow at a time to make sure I had no harsh areas of colour.
4. Outer corner and outer crease: Focusing heavily on the outer corner I used 'Brownie points' and blended that to create a darker transition, I then brought it slightly though my crease still focusing on the outer half to make it slightly smokier and to blend with the crease colour.
5. Lid: On the lid I applied 'Cool Beans' to again blend the two crease colours together and show the transition between the two.
6. Inner corner: For the inner corner I used my favourite makeup product at the moment which is the Stila Magnificent metals liquid eyeshadow in kitten karma, I applied this to the inner third of my eyelid then using a precise crease brush dragged it across the lid to blend out the harsh line.
7. Lower lash line: I dipped my brush in both 'Bestie' and 'Brownie points' and then just lightly blended it into my lower lash line being careful not to bring it too far down my under eye.
8. Details: I knew I wanted to apply lashes so I added a thin winged liner using my holy grail Kat Von D tattoo liner and then used the Ardell Wispies lashes which are my current favourites. On my lower lashes I applied a good amount of the Arbonne Its a long story mascara and also used it to blend my natural lashes with the falsies.

Face:
For the face I needed my base to be full coverage as I was going to be wearing this makeup all day and night so finding the right foundation and powder was key. With having such a full coverage base I then wanted to keep the rest of my face fairly subtle so I decided not to contour but to just bronze my skin and then apply a small amount of blush. I wanted my skin to look fresh and glowy as I mentioned before so I did use a generous amount of highlighter but that looked amazing especially when the sun caught it in photos.

1. Primer: After seeing many bloggers and you tubers using this I decided to give it a try so I used the Nivea men after shave balm and it worked surprisingly well and made a sticky base for my foundation to stick to.
2. Base: I then applied the MAC studio fix foundation in NC20 and used my beauty blender to bounce it into my skin and leave a flawless finish that doesn't look cakey. For concealer I used the makeup forever ultra HD invisible cover concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes. To set my face I used the tarte smooth operator amazonian clay finishing power and focused this under my eyes to stop creasing and on my oily T-zone.
3. Bronze: As I decided not to contour and keep the look natural I just used the Benefit Hoola bronzer to lightly dust over my cheeks and forehead to give a subtle bronze and a bit more colour as I am pale even with fake tan on.
4. Blush and highlight: On the apple of my cheeks I applied a light dusting of Benefits rockateur which has a slight highlight effect itself but then on the top of my cheekbones and down my nose I used MAC soft and gentle.
5. Brows: I had recently got my eyebrows tinted and threaded so on the wedding day they only required a bit of attention, I used Benefits Ka-brow cream gel to lightly fill in any sparse areas then used the ready, set, brow from benefit to set them in place. Using Benefit high brow I applied this under the brow to highlight and make my eyebrows appear more defined and it also acting as a base for Crystal eyeshadow which I mentioned earlier.
6. Lips: I went very simple from the lips and simply applies a clear lip balm from boots and then applied an Estee lauder lipstick in Envy all over to give a slight colour.
7.Setting: As this makeup needed to stay on all day I decided to use a setting spray which I very rarely use but probably should. The one I used is the Urban Decay chill makeup setting spray and it worked a treat.

I was so happy with how this look turned out on the day as I loved how fresh it looked but still slightly glam with the glitter and glowing skin. I created this look based around being a bridesmaid but it would also be perfect for a bride or even a wedding guest. If you are looking for another gorgeous look that is perfect for a wedding event then make sure to head over to livvyandallthingsbeauty and see the look that Olivia created which will be up soon. All photos were taken by Olivia.

Travel with me: Dubai Privilee experience

Hello everyone, I hope you're well.
You may have noticed that I haven't been blogging for a couple of weeks and that is because I have actually been back in Dubai for a holiday. The summer months in Dubai mean extreme heat and instant stickiness, so keeping cool was definitely a priority and one incredible service allowed us to do this whilst still being able to relaxed and enjoying the sun . That is what I am going to be talking about in todays blogpost. This time I went I decided to take my friend Georgia with me, she had never been before so we had a full packed 2 weeks of touristy stuff but also spent some down time where we allowed ourselves to relax before heading back to our hectic lives in England. On our second week we got guest privilee passes as my parents are members and I really wanted to write a post on this service and exactly what I thought about it.

Privilee is a paid membership allowing access to a large number of the best beach clubs and luxury resorts in order to use their pools, private beaches, spas and gyms for free and for as long as you wish. The normal memberships can be paid for monthly or for the year and gives you complete access to as many as you can fit in all year. With these year memberships you also get the opportunity to purchase guest passes so that visitors can use them for the week at a discounted price. The guest passes cost AED249 which is the equivalent to around £50 which is incredible considering the hotels you can visit and also the services and facilities that can be used. Most hotels offer day passes to use their facilities but these themselves cost from AED150-300 so to be able to use as many as you want for a week and also get discounted food and drinks AED249 is an outstanding price. Privilee are partnered with some of the most established and beautiful hotels in the Middle East giving you access to a relaxing pool day, laid back lunch or even a quick workout with a view.

Out of the whole process we only had one small issue with getting our membership cards and we ended up getting them later than expected so we could only use them for 4 days rather than the 5 (weekends are excluded) but that wasn't an issue because we still got our money's worth. We paid for them to be delivered but after realising they wouldn't get there in time we ended up asking to pick up the cards ourselves and they were printed the same morning that we asked for them. The customer service was excellent and once we realised there was a mistake with the cards the employees made it their priority to help us and get the cards done as quickly as possible which I am extremely grateful for, their email replies were fast and they were always asking if their was anything else that we needed to make the service better.

1. Double Tree Hilton JBR
Now onto the actual hotels partnered with privilee and their facilities. After picking up the cards we knew we didn't want to waste anymore time so we went to one of the nearest hotels to the privilee offices which was the Hilton Doubletree in Jumeriah beach residences. This hotel had a lovely pool and its own private beach that you could use as well as free access to the gym and spa which me and Georgia made the most of. The majority of the hotels also had discount on food and beverages with the guest passes which was great for a mid swim snack. The discount varies from 15% to 50% and the Double Tree in particular had 25% off so lunch by the pool was a must. This hotel was fairly quiet and relaxing and the spa included a hot tub, sauna and steam room which you could use for as long as you wanted with discounts on spa treatments as well.

2. Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah
The following day we decided to go to the Palm and we chose the Kempinski which out of all 4 that we visited this by far had the best pool. The pool and beach were stunning and the staff couldn't be any friendlier, I loved everything about this hotel and I would definitely go back many times. With the privilee pass we got 15% off food and beverages which was the lowest out of the hotels but it was still reasonably priced and you also got 25% off of spa treatments which unfortunately we never got to experience as we run out of time. The hotel was great for the kids as they had a park/play area and small children pool and for the adults they had a swim up bar and a relaxing bubbled area similar to a jacuzzi making it perfect for families. The staff were constantly walking around checking up on everyone and due to the heat they offered refreshing ice lollies to both the children and adults which were complimentary.

3. Rixos The Palm Dubai
After loving the Palm the day before we decided to choose another the following day and after researching a few we decided on Rixos which is located at the end of the crescent. When we first arrived the poolside was extremely busy so we nearly visited another hotel on the palm but once we spoke to the pool assistant and explained that we wanted pool side sun lounges he went out of his way to find us some and then we ended up staying the whole day. The vibe at Rixos was great, the music was playing throughout the day and they even started activities up such as water polo which everyone could join in with. They had a pool bar similar to the other two hotels and we had the most amazing mocktail there which ended up being fairly cheap with the 25% off. The pool area seemed smaller and more crowded than any other hotel we visited but it was a lovely hotel to visit and spend the day.

4. The Palace Downtown Dubai
Last but not least is the Palace Downtown which we visited on our final day in Dubai. At first I was skeptical about visiting this hotel because I loved the idea of the hotels having their own beach and also being away from all the hustle and bustle of the main areas of Dubai such as downtown but when we got there we were amazed by the views and also how calm and relaxing it was. The pool was lovely and refreshing and again the staff were so friendly and helpful it just made the experience that bit more special. The views we had of the Burj Khalifa and the fountains was amazing so we were able to watch the fountain show whilst we were there. Food was 20% with the guest passes and their food and drinks were lovely so overall I can't fault this hotel at all oh and their sun lounges were the best haha!

Overall the whole privilee experience was amazing and I would definitely use this service again when visiting Dubai or Abu Dhabi as some of the hotels there too have partnerships with Privilee. Every hotel was different and each one we loved for different reasons so it was very difficult to pin point our favourite. The Privilee staff were extremely helpful which made the whole process a lot easier even when we did have a problem with getting the cards and every hotel was beautiful and it made our time in Dubai that little bit more special and relaxing. I couldn't recommend this membership anymore so if you want to check out more details about Privilee or have any questions then make sure to check out the link to their website here: https://www.privilee.ae
